Press Release CHICAGO & WASHINGTON, DC (October 19, 2004) - Eighteen national and regional nursing informatics groups have established the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI). The boards of directors for both the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the Healthcare Management Systems Society (HIMSS) have agreed to provide ongoing support, coordination, and leadership for the Alliance.

What is the Alliance For Nursing Informatics?

The Alliance for Nursing Informatics is a collaboration of organizations that represent a unified voice for nursing informatics. The Alliance represents more than 3,000 nurses and brings together 20 distinct nursing informatics groups in the United States. The alliance is supported by both HIMSS and AMIA. NISNCE has been a member of the alliance since its inception. Each NI organization provides a representative for four meetings a year.

Since January 2005, the alliance has developed operating guidelines, elected a steering committee, and launched a web page: ANI. In addition, the Alliance has sent a letter representing and supporting nursing informatics to the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee. ANI is also investigating ANCC certification at a reduced cost for members of their organizations. From their web page, you can purchase CIN (Computers, Informatics, Nursing) at a discount rate, learn more about ANI, view the NI calender, and read about NI news.

Here are Archived Excerpts from the first task force meeting including information on the co-sponsored NI symposium at HIMSS.
