Date: July 26, 2004

Time: 11:00 am CDT

Participants: Connie Delaney, Joyce Sensmeier, Judy Murphy, Marina Douglas, Karen Greenwood, Mary Kennedy, Carol Bickford, Angela Lewis, Paulette Fraser

Connie Delaney opened the meeting with a review of what has been accomplished by AMIA and HIMSS so far regarding their support of the NICTF Collaboration.  They are as follows:

  • The listserve is up and functional, it is being served by AMIA, which will be a web site in progress serviced by HIMSS branded for the group.
  • Spring AMIA conference planning is well under way and also supported by the members of NICTF
  • A discussion followed on the status of AMIA and HIMSS.  They are drafting a formal agreement giving official status to the ‘Umbrella collaboration of existing organizations in Nursing Informatics’.
  • Discussion on clarification of the informatics organizations and where they would stand from the perspective of the AMIA/HIMSS umbrella.  It was clarified that the current funding for these activities including conference calls, listserve, and website is being supported by the two organizations.  The written agreement is in process and the next step would be to plan out further items that were agreed by all the NICTF members last February.  These would include:
    • Membership discounts for CIN
    • Reduction in fees for ANCC NI Certification

Name of this group

  • The process would include establishing a  NAME, (before MedInfo)
  • Each president/chair of individual organizations would bring back information to their membership
  • They would survey their membership and send feedback to this group via email by Midnight August 19th
  • There will be a press release on behalf of all participating groups to come out end of August, beginning of September
  • The information will be posted on the website
  • Discussion was held on the boundaries of the organization in regards to its future name.  The question was posed regarding the purpose and activities within the US, that groups had come together to create a ‘US-based organization’.  It was agreed that the original intent was for a unified-nursing informatics collaboration from America and not international at this point.
